BBAC and Live Lebanon Implement Irrigation Canals in Agricultural Communities

BBAC and UNDP's "Live Lebanon" initiative, in collaboration with the Lebanese Ministry of Emigrants, inaugurated two agricultural irrigation projects that assisted the country’s most deprived communities. With the invaluable support of Mrs. Bouran Bouery, the initiative’s Goodwill Ambassador for Western Europe, these projects were implemented in the Bekaa and North Lebanon regions with the aim of saving water for farmers, growing their economic resources and increasing the productivity of their land. Representatives from UNDP and the local BBAC branches attended the two inaugurations that were organized for the projects.

Mrs. Bouran Bouery described the projects with enthusiasm, saying, “I am extremely proud to be working with UNDP and BBAC on the “Live Lebanon” projects that contribute to the creation of a brighter future for the nation.”  She added, “The partnership between them has allowed a vast range of health, environmental, youth, and economic development projects take effect in Lebanon for long-lasting change.”

The first project improved the canal network of the Municipality of Fnaydek in North Lebanon as their current soil canals resulted in high water wastage. The renovation will improve the lives of 80% of the village’s inhabitants. 

The second project in the Municipality of Dar el Wasaa in Bekaa extended the existing irrigation network in the village to reach more agricultural lands. This has also increased the efficiency of irrigation and prevented water waste.

BBAC Sponsors the Army Commander Cup Race for the Second Time

For the second year in a row, BBAC proudly sponsored the Army Commander Cup Race event, which took place in the village of Baadran in Mount Lebanon on Sunday, June 24, 2013.

In glorious sunshine, hundreds of male and female athletes representing the Lebanese Armed Forces, Internal Security Forces, different sports clubs and schools, along with runners of all ages, participated in the 10 km race setting off from ‘Baadaran Military Airport’ to Khraibe village and back to Baadaran. 

BBAC is thrilled to have been able to support this event in belief that sport has the unique power to bridge communities, unite people from all walks of life and drive positive social change. The event certainly also is an opportunity for the Lebanese people to come together in the spirit of solidarity and thank the military members for their patriotic service and the sacrifices they make every day in support of the country.
