- BBAC and Live Lebanon Implement Project to Improve Road Safety and Quality of Life in the West Bekaa
BBAC and Live Lebanon Implement Project to Improve Road Safety and Quality of Life in the West Bekaa
The ongoing partnership between BBAC and Live Lebanon-UNDP continues to prove its enduring commitment to sustainable initiatives throughout the country. The latest road safety project has been inaugurated in the town of Sultan Yaacoub in the West Bekaa due to the invaluable contribution of the town’s expatriates in Brazil, and the active support of Live Lebanon’s Goodwill Ambassador for Brazil, Mr. Moustapha Abdouni.
Sultan Yaacoub’s residents live in precarious conditions because of the lack of a cohesive lighting system during the night. In response to this crisis, the project provided the Municipality with 33 streetlights powered by clean solar energy in order to enforce safety standards at night. The Head of Sultan Yaacoub Municipality, Mr. Ahmad Al-Jaroush, said happily, “At last, a community’s dream for safe nighttime conditions has come true.”
Also present were UNDP representatives, Head of BBAC Jib Jannine branch, Mr. Abdul Karim Abdouny, and Goodwill Ambassador, Moustapha Abdouni, who reiterated the importance of street lighting to increase the safety of pedestrians at night and improve driving conditions in order to avoid accidents. Reflecting upon the project’s importance, Mr. Abdul Karim Abdouny described Live Lebanon and BBAC’s partnership as “a pioneering force of positive action that promotes economic, environmental, youth and health projects in areas that need it most.”

BBAC and Live Lebanon Implement Further Social Development Projects in Lebanon
BBAC and Live Lebanon implemented their latest social development project to give support to Lebanon’s most deprived communities. The inauguration took place in Bsaba - Mount Lebanon as they provided invaluable medical care to the community.
In Bsaba, the nearest hospital is almost 30 km away, putting the residents in major risk. Live Lebanon in partnership with BBAC, along with the municipality of Bsaba, worked to present a fully equipped ambulance that will provide first aid assistance while transporting patients. Waterfront City Cares granted the funds necessary to purchase the first aid equipment and the vehicle that was later on converted into an ambulance.
In attendance at the inauguration were Head of Bsaba Municipality Mr. Munsef Al Akoum, Senior Project Director at Waterfront City Cares Mr. Samer Bissat, Head of BBAC Bakaata branch Dr. Imad El Ghosayni and UNDP Deputy Country Director Mr. Shombi Sharp, who proudly announced the completion of an important initiative that will make for a healthier and more secure environment for the villagers. Mr. Sharp stated: “Every Lebanese should have access to healthcare and be able to receive the necessary first aid assistance when required. We trust that this ambulance will save many lives in Bsaba and surrounding villages”.

BBAC Gives Disabled People a Push Forward
In Lebanon, there are more than 150,000 people with a physical handicap (app. 4% of Lebanon’s population) and most of them suffer from negligence, isolation and discrimination. Due to lack of proper support system and awareness on the human rights and needs of disabled people, BBAC supported Mr. Michael Haddad, the president of "SHIELD-Walk With Us" NGO, who dedicated a walk for the inauguration of the annual National Beach Cleaning Day.
Mr. Haddad who is physically handicapped himself dedicated this 4 km walk to reassure every Lebanese that a physical handicap will not get in the way of fulfilling the duties of any conscious citizen, whilst enlightening the society on the importance of protecting and maintaining the Lebanese environment.
Hundreds of participants from officials, embassies, schools and universities met at Raouché Pigeon Rock to join hands with the goal of walking with Mr. Haddad all the way down to Ramlet El Baida and clean the sandy shores from plastic debris, glass and other waste. This day brought motivation to all Lebanese to invest their capabilities in preserving the nature they live in as well as reminded them of the necessity to help disabled people for they have the power to turn their disability into ability and participate as active citizens in the society despite their handicap.
"SHIELD-Walk With Us" NGO’s mission is not only limited to raising awareness on the importance of reaching out to the disabled people and reintegrating them into the society, but it also includes rehabilitating them and turning them into able, active, and productive members of the society.
